Training for Interpreters

This training enables our interpreters to be better fulfil their requirements

while working in accordance with the Code of Ethics.

 Induction Session April 24, 2009

Client-specific training sessions

Our Melbourne and Sydney offices have hosted three-hour training sessions for more than 200 Interpreter participants.

Induction Sessions

All Graduates offers an innovative Induction Program for newly accredited interpreters and unaccredited interpreters (in languages not tested by NAATI) with little formal interpreting experience in Australia.

This is achieved through varied teaching methods including: role plays, traditional teaching, group activities, use of audiovisual training tools, home study, peer observation.

Topics covered include:
• Defining the interpreter's Role
• Interpreter’s Code of Ethics
• Interpreting Skills
• Telephone and Videoconferencing Interpreting Skills
• Role plays
• Operational requirements (For example: booking methods, administrative issues, online booking system)
• Introduction to Interpreting in specific environments including: health, education employment sector, over -the-phone interpreting techniques.

The main goals of this program are to give interpreters a good understanding of their roles and of our clients’ requirements.  By understanding the roles of our clients, interpreters are better able to understand how they can help facilitate the communication process between our clients and their consumers.

Our clients benefit because our interpreters are aware of the specialised nature of interpreting and have a better understanding of the clients’ roles (whether they work in the health, education, employment sectors etc).

This means that our interpreters are better able to fulfil their requirements while working in accordance with the Code of Ethics.  Clients’ specific needs are also discussed during these sessions.
