Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Webinar

In Partnership with RMIT University, Austin Health, Eastern Health and Western Health, All Graduates presents – Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Webinar.
The format of this webinar will be a live panel discussion workshop, discussing matters surrounding the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017 that came into effect in Victoria on 19 June 2019.
A limited number of seats are also available to attend this webinar in person. 40 seats are available on a first come first service basis. Please refer to the RSVP information at the bottom of this email for more information.
Facilitated by RMIT University, this live webinar will feature language service managers from the following health services:
- Austin Health
- Eastern Health
- Western Health
- and the VAD program manager from Austin Health
This live 90-minute webinar will cover:
- Voluntary Assisted Dying Act and the impact to Interpreters
- How might interpreters be involved in the Voluntary Assisted Dying process
- Quality standards (NAATI certification requirements) for agency interpreters
- Support available to interpreters
Handouts and documents presented during the webinar will be available to download in the attendee control panel during the live session.
* Whilst the VAD is related to the Victorian Act and will apply mostly to Victorian based interpreters, Interpreters outside of Victoria are welcomed to attend.
Presenter & Facilitator
Dr Erika Gonzalez, Program Manager, Master of Translating and Interpreting RMIT University
Erika has more than 15 years experience teaching translation and interpreting at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Europe and Australia. Her research focuses on the professionalisation of community interpreting and the impact that language barriers have on non-English speakers. Erika´s research and work focuses on the goal of providing fair access to public services for those who cannot communicate in the language/s of their host societies.
Erika is the current National President at AUSIT and had also previously served as the Vice-President (Events & Professional Development)
